Our Operation

Our farm is a pasture-based operation that challenges our cowherd through generations of only pasture and limited hay feeding. Our unique environment and management tend to identify lower-maintenance females with superior fertility and identify those with inherent problems. Our goal is a moderate size, easy-fleshing, easy-to-manage cow, believing that an efficient and low-maintenance cowherd is the key to profitable commercial production. Other important factors which we emphasize are calving ease, udder quality, a slick hair type, structural soundness, and superior disposition. We currently market all of our steers and heifers not used as replacements to grass finishing operations in the Northeast and in the South.

RedAngus is the cornerstone genetics of our cowherd. In the early 2000's we began to see the need for cows to be able to maintain themselves on what the ranch provides without a lot of additional input. This led to us using some genetics from Tim Ohlde at Ohlde Cattle Company in Kansas. We crossed our registered RedAngus with OCC Angus bulls and began using the offspring of those in our herd. Many of the cows produced in these original matings are still in production today.
In 2013 we began using red Sim Angus bulls from Red Hill Farms in Layette, Tennessee. We recognize the value of crossbreeding, particularly in having a crossbred commercial female. We continue to use RedAngus and red SimAngus genetics but insist on a low-maintenance female of a similar body type.
